About the Artist

From an early age, Kevin Alderson-Smith has been inspired by the natural world. Growing up on a family farm in the Eden Valley, Cumbria, he spent his childhood sketching wildlife - so much so that his mother once gave him wallpaper liner to cover the walls with his drawings. What began with simple stickmen soon grew into detailed sketches of pheasants, woodcock, and the animals he admired in Shooting Times.

Kevin’s lifelong passion for the countryside and deer management has shaped his journey as both a stalker and an artist. With decades of experience managing roe and fallow deer across thousands of acres in the Yorkshire Dales and beyond, Kevin has developed an intimate understanding of wildlife behaviour. This closeness to nature translates directly into his art, allowing him to capture the true expression, muscle tone, and majesty of animals in a way that few others can.

After a health setback, Kevin discovered painting in acrylic and oil as a new focus — one that not only reignited his creativity but also strengthened his mental wellbeing. Today, he specialises in original wildlife paintings, sporting dog portraits, and commissioned artwork of British, African, and American game, as well as fish, flora, and fauna. Each piece reflects both his technical skill and deep respect for the natural world.

Whether you are looking for wildlife art for sale in the UK, a commissioned sporting dog painting, or an original oil painting of British game, Kevin’s work combines field knowledge with artistic passion to create timeless pieces for collectors, country sports enthusiasts, and nature lovers alike.
